Stir Crazy's “Cook Like a Wok Star” Class Gives Hands-On Instruction in Bringing the Restaurant Home to the Kitchen

Amaze friends, impress neighbors, surprise family members by shaking up the household dinner doldrums with hands-on instruction in one of America’s favorite dining out fares – Asian eats! Stir Crazy, a full-service Asian restaurant with four Chicagoland locations as well as five in other states, is helping recreate the dining out experience in the home through its Stir Crazy Cook Like A Wok Star class. People of all cooking experience levels can learn to create a delicious dipping sauce here, use an infusion of fresh ingredients there, pan fry noodles and stir fry meats with flare in a sizzling wok. All it takes is a casual attitude of fun, two hours, a hungry stomach, and a desire to become a home cooking star! Stir Crazy’s Cook Like A Wok Star class costs $20 per person and is taking place this month at its Warrenville, IL restaurant, 28252 Diehl Road, on Tuesday, July 24 from 7-9 p.m.

 

Stir Crazy’s Cook Like A Wok Star is a hands-on cooking class and wine tasting event intended to be enjoyed as a solo “student,” with a companion or with a group of friends. During the July class, guests will learn how to create the following dishes:

 

  • Chicken Satay – seared chicken skewers served with a peanut dipping sauce. Wine pairing: Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio.
  • Double Pan Fried Noodles with Steak – thin, semi-crisp egg noodles topped with carrots, Chinese broccoli, celery and onions in a mild sauce. Wine pairing: Estancia Pinot Noir.
  • Stir Crazy’s signature Pyphoon dessert – ice cream pie layered with coffee, chocolate and vanilla Swiss almond ice creams on an Oreo crust and drizzled with homemade caramel sauce.

 

 

The class menu will change monthly; Stir Crazy Chef Brian Donofrio will lead the July class. Students will leave Stir Crazy’s Cook Like A Wok Star event with a notebook containing that night’s class recipes, shopping list with comparable costs from multiple grocery stores as well as descriptions – with photos –of various rice, noodles and other ingredients used in Asian cooking.
